Karim Aïnouz: BLAST! is a journey into the photographic and visual archive of the internationally renowned filmmaker and artist Karim Aïnouz. The artist, who still lives in Berlin, arrived at the city in 2004 as a fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program.
Karim Aïnouz’s unique vision traverses formal boundaries ranging from experimental queer cinema to complex character studies and poetic explorations of his own Brazilian-Algerian origins.
BLAST! is a project that brings Aïnouz’s film work into dialogue with his lesser-known photographic and installation practice. It takes a deep dive into Aïnouz’s color saturated image archive, developed over decades of his engaged visual practice. Based on Aïnouz’s very personal visual cosmology, BLAST! heightens our awareness of the images surrounding us every day.
